Facade renovation in Biarritz, Rue de la République

Initial condition

A small residential building (three owners) with visible issues, particularly dampness on the rear facade, west side. The stone on the upper balcony and entrance door had been painted over and hidden, despite being a hard limestone of high aesthetic value.

  • Damp treatment: chipping, crack sealing, and mortar application on the most affected areas.
  • Restoration of the limestone on the upper balcony and entrance door, removing paint layers and highlighting its natural beauty.
  • Replacement of a small rotten wooden beam under the bow-window.
  • Sealing of windows to ensure watertightness.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of zinc gutters (cheneaux), taking advantage of the scaffolding assembly.

The building regained its authenticity and aesthetic value through the restoration of the limestone, which, combined with the grey of the lower bow-window and the tone of the rings, produced a very harmonious result.

Dampness issues were resolved, the wooden and zinc elements repaired, and the three-owner community was fully satisfied with the works carried out.
